The artist had previously worked with PlayStation's Uncharted series, and for reasons unknown, it inspired fans to form connections d2r items for sale. But, Kozlowsky and Retro Studios were actually working on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze as well, and after the game was officially unveiled, many Zelda players slammed it as they wanted something else. In a new interview for an interview on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Kozlowsky disclosed the reasons for this rumor, which caused discontent for the team behind the game.
"Sometimes it's frustrating since it creates [false expectations]. That's what I saw when we announced Tropical Freeze. People were looking at the news and thinking, 'they're making some kind of Zelda game, they're working on the next Zelda game,' however, they were like 'nope!. And we announced Tropical Freeze and it looks stunning and beautiful and people then go "oh it's a sequel to Donkey Kong.'
Then you realize that there are people slamming it on Neogaf or something and you're thinking, 'oh you know, because everybody believed we were playing an Zelda game. And then you realize we don't do that. people do.' So it's both: sometimes we laugh at this, and at other times it's annoying when it lasts a time," said Kozlowsky.
Kozlowsky's comments are an interesting glimpse into how rumors get spread and how it could adversely affect a game's popularity. While Tropical Freeze might not have been the game many gamers were hoping to discover but it did receive a lot of critical praise upon its release. It's a bit frustrating when you put all your effort into something only to have the internet to respond by expressing disappointment on the basis of inaccurate rumors. It's impossible to control the reactions of fans to an announcement about a game and, hopefully, that experience gave some fans a better understanding of staying on the right side of expectations!
